SUMMARY OF QUALIFICATIONS:
Twelve years of successful public relations, publicity and marketing experience with an emphasis on event coordination, sponsorship and publicity.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
* Established, organized, directed, and promoted SkyFest AirShow in Dublin, Virginia; a highly successful event that draws an estimated 20,000 spectators each September, with rave reviews for the past three years.
* Developed marketing promotions information program and media connections for publicity of MWR special events and on-going programs. Resulted in increased community awareness, attendance and sponsorship support for numerous events.
* Obtained over $580,000 in sponsorship for the N'Awlins Air Show which, in 12 years, had produced only $30,000 to $60,000 in sponsorship support.
* Implemented a publicity campaign for the N'Awlins Air Show with $265,000 in publicity coverage for only $12,000 in expenditures by creating cross promotions, sponsorship, commentary and live coverage.
* Developed and executed a publicity campaigns for the 1997 & 1999 Cherry Point MCAS Air Show that drew record crowds (1997: 50,000 attendees in the pouring rain; 1999: 120,000 attendees in fair weather).
* Through diversified publicity and networking, increased air show attendance at the N'Awlins AirShow from 200,000 to over 340,000 for a three day show.
* Editor of a Sunday column in the New Orleans Times Picayune newspaper focusing on Naval Air Station news and special events.
* Directed groups of 80 to 260 volunteers and three full days of entertainment, stages, tournaments and contests for both the N'Awlins Air Show and Kaneohe Bay Summer Festival, Hawaii.
* Successfully organized and implemented Health & Fitness Fair and Art, Photo & Creative Writing Contests, dinner theaters, comedy shows, festivals, sporting events and exhibitions with audiences ranging from 40 to 340,000.
EDUCATION:
BA in Business Management with a Minor in Marketing; graduated Cum Laude & chosen as "Distinguished Marketing Graduate" from Chaminade University of Honolulu.
EXPERIENCE:
Marketing Officer of MWR/MCCS (Morale, Welfare & Recreation/Marine Corps Community Services), Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point (December 1996 - April 1999). Developed and implemented successful publicity plans; created all inclusive MWR information booklet outlining all facilities, departments, programs, annual and on-going events. Designed MWR Newsletter that consolidated the clubs, recreation departments, retail, youth activities, and all MWR departments' newsletters and mailing lists to streamline efforts, save money, and cross promote activities and events. Developed a scene script & voice script for Welcome Aboard Video for use at Command Briefs, employee orientations and other speaking engagements. Responsibilities included media relations, promotions, public relations, graphic support for all departments, supervision of the marketing and sponsorship departments.
Marketing/Publicity/Sponsorship/Special Events Director of MWR (Morale, Welfare & Recreation Department), Naval Air Station, Joint Reserve Base, New Orleans (August, 1994 - June, 1996). Increased my staff from one to seven employees within eight months of successful programs. Responsibilities included event conception, production, management & promotion; speaking engagements and presentations; sponsorship; media relations and public relations. Planning, promotion and graphic support for base activities (athletics, golf, bowling, youth centers, clubs, restaurants, auto hobby shop...), and open house events such as the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra Concert, NAS Fest, and the N'Awlins Air Show. Market research and development. Incorporated a "Single Sailor" program to provide recreational and cultural activities for single military personnel during the holidays.
Manager of Information, Tickets & Tours (ITT) department of MWR (while also serving as the Marketing Director). Expanded ITT to include a coffee / ice cream parlor and resale operation featuring military and event clothing & souvenirs. Implemented monthly trips to casinos, horseback riding ranches, local attractions and events.
Founding Editor of the Times Picayune Newspaper Sunday column, AIRWAVES, (November 1994-July 1996) which increased community and patron awareness of the military lifestyle.
Marketing Assistant/Special Events Coordinator of MWR Marine Corps Air Station, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, (October 1990 - April 1992). A wide variety of responsibilities included sponsorship, public relations, publicity, promotions and special events. Photographed & videoed events. Organized & directed the Kaneohe Bay Summer Festival Health & Fitness Fair & Desert Storm Art, Photo, Creative Writing Contests simultaneously while providing set-ups for 34 health & fitness fair participants and 12 sponsors. Also recruited and coordinated entertainment for three entertainment stages. Developed and implemented marketing research for retail, child care and food & hospitality divisions. Interviewed local personalities & wrote columns for local, regional & national publications (including: Hawaii Marine News, Pastime Press, Payday update, and MWR Manager Magazine).
Editor of the MUSCATEER Newspaper, American Embassy, Muscat, Oman (March 1988-January 1989). Editor/writer for all articles and embassy news; photographed, typeset, laid out, and published weekly paper & distributed to diplomats, seven mid eastern embassies and the department of state. Increased readership and diplomatic community participation in functions associated with the MUSCATEER.
