The Department

Rocket Development Facility Our Texas team is an integral part of SpaceX
operations and plays the critical role of testing our flight vehicles and
spacecraft. Located on a 700 acre site in central Texas, the Rocket
Development Facility is responsible for testing hardware from development
stages through acceptance for flight, and from component level to complete
stage testing. Experiencing the rumbling of a rocket engine multiple times each
day is just one of the highlights of working at our Rocket Development Facility.

The Job

Mission Assurance/Quality - SpaceX has a strong belief that launch vehicles and
spacecraft can be both cost effective and highly reliable. Our Mission
Assurance/Quality team is key to our pursuit of that goal and more specifically
also our pursuit of manned spaceflight. The department works in a cross-
functional fashion with all other technical teams on a variety of exciting
projects, and has great exposure to leadership and the organization as a whole.

Responsibilities
Assist Responsible Engineering and Lead Technicians on site as the needs arise
Conduct AS9100 Internal Audits for all SpaceX Sites and assure that AS9100 and
customer requirements are met in an efficient manner
Complete and maintain required Quality Tracking and Monitoring System
Support the Material Review and Cause and Corrective Action Process
Oversee the inspection and monitoring process during development and
acceptance testing of flight hardware as it progresses through its testing at the
Site
Provide and participate in the Corrective Action program which ensures the
timely correction and prevention of all significant quality related problems
Determine root cause of systemic issues and provide action plans to prevent
recurrence
Assure test documentation is complete and ready for final acceptance and
closure
Manage and coordinate calibration of inspection and test equipment
Develop, establish, and maintain a quality process and procedure that ensures
the identification, segregation, control, and disposition of all nonconforming
materials, parts, components and subassemblies at both the business and
supplier level
Apply lean methods to processes and procedures to eliminate waste while
defining, measuring, and improving process efficiency
Assure procedure consistency and readiness for test and eliminate waste
associated with procedure configuration and revision issues
Document lessons learned and roll forward into future paper and build process
Work directly with operations, inspection, and Engineering to enforce MRB
requirements
Work with electronic systems used in the documentation and disposition of
nonconforming material
Perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring an
efficient and effective work environment
Requirements

Education & Experience Requirements:
Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited four-year institution in industrial
engineering, mechanical engineering or aerospace engineering is required
1-3 years of experience in Quality Assurance Engineering or Manufacturing
Engineering including experience in leading cross-functional teams and
resolving quality issues, highly preferred
Hands-on experience working with quality engineering on spacecraft and
components, preferred
General Requirements:
Ability to work in a fast-paced and cross-functional environment
Demonstrated experience where quick-thinking and problem solving plays a
critical role
A demonstrated ability in reading/understanding blueprints and technical
manuals and reports
Excellent communication and team building skills
Ability to work effectively in a team environment
A strong passion for space exploration
Software/Computer Skills and Required Skill Level:
Windows Operating Systems, Intermediate
Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, OneNote), Intermediate
Microsoft Office Suite applications, Intermediate
Physical Requirements:
General physical fitness is required for some work areas, flight hardware
typically is built in tight quarters and physical dexterity is required
Occasionally exposed to work in extreme outdoor environments heat, cold,
rain
Work performed in an environment requiring exposure to fumes, odors, and
noise
Additional position information
Typically 50 hour work weeks, schedule varies depending on site operational
needs, flexibility required
Ability to work rotating shifts
Overtime is frequently required for particular tasks or test series
