Summary: This is a group-level role supporting 7 US-based rail car repair shops. Reports to GM of group with dotted line to Quality Director.
Location Options:

3. Chicago, IL (candidate must have railcar repair experience to be based here)

Education: Minimum HSD or GED; bachelor's degree in QA, Mechanical, Metallurgical or Welding Engineering is strongly preferred
Experience: At least 5 years of quality MANAGEMENT experience in industrial fabrication and/or assembly, related to freight cars or ASME pressure vessels

Skills:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Ensures that the Company Quality Assurance manual and programs meet all regulatory, customer, and company requirements.
2. Performs activities necessary to drive quality improvement, reduce costs, and improve productivity throughout the shop network.
3. Develops, implements and manages process measurement (metrics) systems to measure quality and implement corrective actions for continuous improvement based on data provided.
4. Maintains effective communications with Customer Service and Engineering personnel, as well as outside customers and federal regulators, to provide support and technical expertise, and troubleshoot quality issues.
5. Functions as a coach/mentor to shop quality and production personnel and provides tools/instructions necessary to them to initiate and maintain quality at the shop level, as well as ensure corrective/preventive measures are implemented.
6. Manages internal audit functions of the quality department at shop services locations to ensure adherence to design and regulatory requirements, and assists with external regulatory audit functions and follow up, as well as vendor audits, as required.
7. Ensures that repair shop locations maintain AAR M1002 and M1003 facility certifications.
8. Participates in and actively supports quality projects and activities and responsible care initiatives to ensure that the Company achieves its goals.
