Position Specifics:


Must have extensive years of experience and certification as a quality assurance specialist and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) inspector in the following test methods, Visual (VT), Liquid Penetrant (PT) onboard US Navy combatant surface ships and submarines and Military Sealift Command ships. Candidate must be knowledgeable and experienced in the requirements and use of the following manuals; NAVSEA Standard Items, Joint Fleet Maintenance Manual and the NAVSEA 9090.310 for the repair, alteration and maintenance of naval vessels. Candidate must be proficient in the use of MS Word and Excel required for QA work package development, and record maintenance.

Physical requirements:
Most work is performed aboard ships or in industrial conditions. Able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders. Able to work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required from time to time. Environment may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions. May require working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May involve riding ships at sea for extended periods. May require the ability to work while wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.

Develops or reviews designs by extracting and analyzing a variety of engineering data. Develops, prepares, or recommends schematics, designs, specifications, electrical drawings and parts lists. Conducts tests or experiments requiring selection and adaptation or modification of a wide variety of critical test equipment and test procedures. Performs customer support activities involving the installation, modification and repair of complex equipment and systems. Adapts equipment or system to satisfy unique requirements. Conducts on-site installation of equipment and follows established testing procedures to ensure proper working order. Isolates equipment start-up malfunctions and takes corrective action. Trains customer personnel in equipment operation and maintenance responsibilities. Develops schedules and assigns work to meet critical service projects. Ensures maintenance contracts for services are fulfilled and that appropriate documentation and records are kept.
Basic Qualifications High school or equivalent plus appropriate Trade School or related Armed Forces school + 9 years related experience OR 12 years related experience plus 4 years supervisory experience. Must provide own hand tools as designated per trades specialty.
Preferred Qualifications Coded welder or nuclear work experience is a plus.
