Provides technical support of NDE activities in NDE methods in which certified. Provides problem resolution assistance to NDE technicians performing NDE inspection activities. Identifies and enters problems or issues into the corrective action process. May be assigned corrective actions from within the CAP process

Need to interface with the following: NOS Management, QC/ NDE Inspectors, ANII, various auditors, and engineers. Attends meetings representing NDE and reviewing work committed and non-committed schedules.

Provides assistance in maintaining NDE procedures to ensure compliance to applicable Code and Regulatory requirements. Performs an NDE Level III review of completed nuclear inspection records within NDE disciplines in which certified.
The individual will maintain Level III certifications and spend a minimum of 30 percent of their time performing field inspections.

The NDE Technical Support is responsible for the following:

The NDE Tech Support shall be capable of establishing and approving NDE techniques and procedures, interpreting codes, standards, and specifications; and designating the particular test methods, techniques and procedures to be used.
Develop and maintain NDE Implementation Level documents in accordance with the Nuclear Policy Manual, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, and the Code of Federal Regulations
The NDE Tech Support shall be responsible for oversight of NDE operations for which qualified and assigned to, and shall be capable of interpreting and evaluating results in terms of existing codes, standards, and specifications.
Provides technical support including training, certifications, and oversight of Duke Nuclear QA / QC / NDE Technicians.
The NDE Tech Support shall have sufficient practical background in applicable materials, fabrication and, product technology to establish techniques and to assist the design engineer in establishing acceptance criteria where none are otherwise available.
The NDE Tech Support shall have general familiarity with other appropriate NDE methods, and responsible for training and examination of Nuclear QA / QC / NDE Technician personnel for certification.
The NDE Tech Support may be assigned to providing oversight and owners approval of all assigned NDE Vendors.

This position will require:

Routine on-system travel to Duke nuclear sites
Occasional off-system travel to industry meetings, seminars, and manufacturer oversight visits
Overtime on an as-needed basis to support plant issues and projects

Depending upon the desired qualifications of the successful candidate, the hiring manager may elect to fill this position at a higher level within the job hierarchy.
Skills:
Basic /Required Qualifications:
Two year technical degree in related inspection field or 4 years nuclear experience
Minimum of five (5) year Level III experience in one or more of the following methods:
Magnetic Particle (MT)
Liquid Penetrant (PT)
Visual/ ISI (VT) Radiography (RT)
Ultrasonics (UT)

Desired Qualifications:
Four year Bachelor's degree or 10 years nuclear experience
Experience with EPRI Performance Demonstration Initiative including past or present PDI qualifications
Demonstrated knowledge of the ASTM, ANSI, ASNT and ASME codes
Demonstrated advance techniques of Microsoft Office Suite (spreadsheets, database applications, etc.)
Nuclear QA / QC / NDE Technician in at least 2 additional disciplines (MT, PT, RT, UT, VT, ISI)
Working knowledge and understanding of the QA program and other related documents
Demonstrated ability to effectively work independently and/or with minimal supervision
Demonstrated planning and organizational skills
Experience reading and interpreting procedures, drawings, specifications, and codes
