JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for ten (10) results driven engineering professionals to join our team in Durham Region, in the role of Senior Engineer/Scientist Technical Officer – IMS Engineering.

Reporting to the Manager in the Inspection and Maintenance Services (IMS) group, the Senior Engineer/Scientist Technical Officer is responsible for providing technical expertise and services to customers in nuclear and thermal generation facilities and related support functions. This role will provide technical advice, guidance, consultation, and support in the delivery of services in the IMS group.

OPG’s Inspection and Maintenance Services Division supports OPG’s internal work program needs for Non-Destructive Examinations (NDE) of both major (fuel channel, steam generator, feeder) and minor Power Plant components (piping, valves, pumps, etc) at OPG’s Nuclear and Fossil plants and Nuclear waste management facilities . IMS also provides specialized maintenance work for Pickering and Darlington.

In addition to proven engineering or technical experience, we are looking for Engineers/Technical Professionals with specific experience in developing and qualifying inspection tooling and procedures, with particular interest in advanced UT methods though any NDE experience would be considered an asset.

The successful candidate in this role will be multi-disciplined in their skills, have a high skill set and a long tenure in the field. This will be a challenging role that will operate at the fore-front of this discipline in both development and implementation of best practices.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Provide technical advice, guidance, consultation and services to clients to deal with problems and studies up to and including those of the highest order of complexity, and/or for the establishment of new or revised technical programs.

Be required to prepare engineering documentation, including engineering specifications, procedures, training manuals, maintenance procedures and drawings.

Assist in project planning, including preparation of Project Execution Plans, project estimating, Risk Register, Business Case Summary and other pertinent documents.

Assist with the vendor evaluation process.
Adhere to specific governance, processes and guidelines used to prepare/revise engineering and project documentation.

Prepare/revise technical justifications, procedures, training and qualification plans used to qualify specific inspection technologies.

Ability to match the Inspection and NDT methods to the failure mechanism while balancing safety, cost, human performance and speed of delivery.

Work as part of a team using critical crack sizes coupled with NDT capability to calculate and manage the remaining life of pressure boundary, rotating and static components.

Provide Inspection and NDT engineering design, assessment, technical advice, guidance, consultation and other services to clients to deal with problems and projects of high complexity.

Obtain and analyze pertinent information and perform tests, inspections and studies related to Inspection and NDT engineering.

Lead projects/studies and directs work of technicians and junior staff and/or carry out full responsibility for assigned technical work programs.

Develop work plans, determine resource requirements and balance workload with available resources (if applicable), coordinate work efforts with other involved groups, adapt project/study activities to address changing priorities, anticipate and resolve problems, and accomplish planned work results to the satisfaction of the client within established budgetary and scheduling constraints.

Produce reports or other documents and/or presentations as required.

Keep abreast of latest developments in the discipline of Inspection and NDT through reference to relevant publications, participation in technical activities and/or interface with industrial bodies and peers.


EDUCATION

4 year university degree in Engineering, Physics or Physical Sciences;

Post graduate studies in related area is an asset;

Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation is an asset but not a requirement


QUALIFICATIONS

6 + years of Engineering experience with Inspection and NDT;

Extensive and diverse knowledge of Inspection and NDT principles, applicable codes and Standards and industry best practices to provide engineering support;

Detailed knowledge of all types of NDT and capabilities is desired;

CAN/CGSB-48.9712-2006 certification in NDT is desirable as is familiarity with software such as CIVA® and Ultravision;
Experience related to robotics, PLCS and industrial automation is desirable;

Knowledge and experience with tooling design principles and change control processes is desirable;

Strong leadership qualities and possess well-developed analytical and communication skills (verbal and written);

Ability to effectively interface, build and sustain relationships with other departments and key stakeholders;

A results-oriented focus is essential, as is the ability to work in a fast-paced changing environment and effectively manage several projects simultaneously;

Power generation plant experience preferred;
Possess a valid driver’s license.
