This is an expansion position in which the selected candidate will work under a senior metallurgical engineer in the execution of metallurgical failure analysis, routine metallurgical laboratory testing, and consulting over a wide range of industries. The bulk of the projects will be conducted in the MISTRAS metallurgical laboratory located in Beaumont, Texas. Due to the customer/client service-oriented nature of the MISTRAS metallurgical laboratory operation, occasional weekend and extended hour weekday work is needed with minimal notice. Further, the need for domestic travel is required on occasion, again with little or minimal notice.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/ACTIVITIES:

• Perform metallurgical failure analysis
o Plan/schedule the various tasks/procedures necessary for failure analysis data acquisition
o Ensure the proper execution of the various task/procedures
o Interface with client contacts as-necessary in ascertaining information related to potential incoming and current projects.
o Maintain project records.
o Report writing.
• Maintain and promote a safe working environment.
• Maintain metallurgical lab consumables inventory, ensure lab equipment maintenance/operation, supports as necessary projects in the metallurgical laboratory not necessarily related to failure analysis/consulting.
• Coordinate, and/or execute field microstructure replication (FMR) and in-situ field metallography endeavors:
o Maintain equipment
o Schedule plant safety training for personnel
o Prepare estimates
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• B.Sc. in Metallurgical Engineering. A B.Sc. in Materials Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with concentration in metallurgy will be considered depending on experience and degree curriculum.
• Ten years or less of post-degree work experience in the field of metallurgical engineering/testing. Failure analysis experience is a definite plus.
• This is a very "hands-on" position requiring the candidate to (at times) participate/lead all phases of laboratory work in the data acquisition portion of failure analysis projects. Therefore, familiarity and comfort with all aspects metallurgical lab processes associated with failure analysis is necessary.
• Familiarity with ASTM, ASME, NACE and API material specifications and testing protocol/procedure related to metallurgical and corrosion testing.
• Basic knowledge/awareness of general NDE methodologies (RT, PT, WFMP, MP, UT, AE, etc.)
• Superior oral and written communication skill.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS:

• Frequent lifting up to 30 lbs.
