POSITION SUMMARY:

NDT Technician performs routine to difficult field and fabrication shop inspections. Performs Phased Array (PAUT),Ultrasonic (UT), Magnetic Particle (MT) and Dye Penetrant (PT) methods testing of welded connections, performs visual observations of piping, structural steel, vessels, tanks, and other materials.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Must possess the traits to promote good working relationships with fellow employees, supervisors and clients. Must be able to communicate with contractor or client personnel and have the ability to operate calmly under pressure. Interact with client's field representatives to report results and conclusions.

Must act as a field inspector as required by applicable codes. Makes field inspections of sites and takes photographs of field operations as required. Performs non-destructive tests on welded and bolted connections using PAUT/UT/MT/PT methods. Prepares written daily field observation reports and summary reports. Performs other duties as requested.

Possess understanding and practical experience with welder performance qualification and welding procedure qualification testing and witnessing.

Must have ability to train and motivate subordinates. Must be alert to new procedures and methods, and be able to train others in these procedures/methods.
Skills:
EXPERIENCE:

3 plus years of experience required in similar field-related activities.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES:

ASNT PAUT/UT/MT/PT Level II

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:

Proficiency in conducting relevant field tests. Ability to reduce and interpret test data, prepare testing reports and make oral presentations to staff professionals and clients. Awareness of loss prevention techniques as they apply to field endeavors. Ability to read and understand project plans and specifications. Ability to develop testing procedures and/or quality control plans.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Frequent driving.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Frequent exposure to weather including hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by the weather. Working conditions could be a combination based on season.

Exposure to constant or intermittent sounds or a pitch or level sufficient to cause marked distraction or possible hearing loss.
Exposure to a shaking object or surface. This factor is rated important when vibration causes a strain on the body or extremities.
Exposure to conditions such as fumes, noxious odors, dusts, mists, gases, and poor ventilation, which affect the respiratory system, eyes or, the skin.
Exposure to confined areas.
Exposure to heights.
