Metallurgical Engineering Services, Inc. (MES) is seeking a qualified NDT UT Level II Technician to join our Richardson, Texas team. The ideal candidate brings strong technical proficiency, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality while performing ultrasonic examinations on a wide range of materials, weldments, and components. This role supports both field and laboratory operations and contributes directly to MES’s reputation for technical excellence and reliable engineering support.
Skills:
Ultrasonic Testing & Inspection
- Perform UT shear-wave and straight-beam examinations in accordance with written procedures, industry codes, and client specifications.
- Evaluate indications, characterize discontinuities, and determine acceptance based on applicable standards (AWS, ASME, API, ASTM, etc.).
- Conduct thickness measurements, weld inspections, lamination checks, and flaw detection on ferrous and non‑ferrous materials.
Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare clear, accurate, and professional inspection reports, including data sheets, sketches, and digital records.
- Maintain traceable records of calibration, equipment settings, and inspection parameters.
- Communicate findings to project managers, engineers, and clients in a concise and technically sound manner.
Equipment & Compliance
- Set up, calibrate, and operate ultrasonic equipment, couplants, wedges, and related accessories.
- Ensure compliance with MES procedures, safety requirements, and applicable codes.
- Assist in maintaining equipment inventory, calibration schedules, and consumables.
Field & Client Support
- Perform inspections at client sites, fabrication shops, and industrial facilities as required.
- Represent MES professionally while interacting with clients, contractors, and engineering personnel.
- Support additional NDT methods (VT, MT, PT) as qualified.
Required Qualifications
- ASNT SNT‑TC‑1A or CP‑189 Level II certification in Ultrasonic Testing (documentation required).
- Minimum 2–3 years of UT field experience in industrial, fabrication, or engineering environments.
- Strong understanding of weld inspection, material properties, and common discontinuities.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, weld symbols, and technical specifications.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally for field assignments.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs, work at heights, and perform inspections in industrial environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional NDT certifications (VT, MT, PT).
- Experience with AWS D1.1, D1.5, ASME Section V, API 5L/1104, or similar codes.
- Familiarity with metallurgical principles, failure mechanisms, and material behavior.
- Strong technical writing skills and comfort with digital reporting tools.
