Summary: Inspects ferrous and non-ferrous metal parts for flaws using fluorescent penetrant or dye check inspection process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

„X Inspects ferrous and non-ferrous parts by the penetrant process to check for discontinuities in part that would be detrimental to the operation of the complete unit.
„X Removes or explores the extent of surface flaws, using abrasives or files; uses caustic soda or acid etch as an aid to determining nature of defects.
„X Inspects ferrous parts for surface cracks by penetrant process.
„X Uses black light and comparison plate to determine acceptance of fluorescent inspected parts or assemblies.
„X Visually checks parts. Inspector¡¦s decision to accept or reject part is based on the location and the type of defect and the stress the part will be subjected to in operation according to blueprint specifications.
„X Identifies if cleaning, heat treat and/or manufacturing or a combination of the above factors causes defects.
„X Checks blueprints in some cases to determine whether the tolerances will allow the part to be reworked. Writes up rework or reject tickets.
„X Performs rework, repair, and other associated operations in connection with the work described.

Education and/or Experience: One year certificate from college or technical school; or five or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Other Qualifications: Must be certified as a Level II Penetrant Inspector. Must be able to read blueprints.

Materials Worked On: Ferromagnetic and non-ferromagnetic welded or machined parts.

Materials Worked With: Penetrant dies, marking pencils or crayons, black light.

Tools Used: Any inspection instruments and equipment necessary to complete the inspection assignment.
