1. What Is Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)?
Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), also called Non-Destructive Examination (NDE) in many engineering and code environments, is the examination of materials, welds, components or assemblies without destroying their intended usefulness. NDT is used to find, characterize or monitor conditions that could affect quality, integrity or service performance.

The correct NDT method depends on the material, geometry, expected discontinuity, location, access, required sensitivity and governing specification. No single method is universally best.
