Officially, the remodeled building at Linn-Benton Community College is the Non-Destructive Test and Evaluation Facility. But to Seaton McLennan, it's nothing short of the Happiest Place on Earth.

"This is the Disneyland of training institutions for non-destructive testing," said McLennan, who co-chairs the Non-Destructive Test department with fellow instructor Scott Ballard. "It's all Disneyland to me."

A grand opening to celebrate the institution will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Friday at the facility, IA-124 in the community college's industrial complex at the north end of campus, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany.

The building used to house the college's collision repair classes. Those aren't being offered currently, and all the other automotive classes have been consolidated at the college's Advanced Transportation Technology Center in Lebanon. That left space in Albany for non-destructive testing.

Part of the $34 million bond measure approved by voters in 2014 paid for the renovation of the shop. The first group of eight students started in fall 2016, but this is the first year much of the new equipment has been in place and ready to use. Nineteen students are in the program this year.
