Before a manufacturing process can begin, a check between the final design and actual manufactured result must be completed in some industries like automotive, medical device and aerospace. This is called First Article Inspection (FAI). FAI can be a complex process but with new technology, like 3D scanning and advancements in software, the process can be easily done in a matter of minutes.

Stephanie McCartan is the Portable Metrology Product Manager at Carl Zeiss Industrial Metrology, LLC. She is responsible for driving the development and release of new products within the Portable Metrology portfolio to provide more comprehensive solutions to the manufacturing industry.
Stephanie started with ZEISS in 2015 and was responsible for developing the ZEISS Academic Program that provides educational institutions with the equipment, software and resources to teach inspection technologies to the up and coming workforce. Prior to her career at ZEISS, Stephanie studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN, where she graduated with a BSME in 2014.
