TSC Subsea has confirmed the commercial availability of its in-service hull inspection capability, delivered using its ORCA robotic crawler.
The company delivers in-service hull inspections and condition surveys using its deck-launched ORCA, providing accurate condition assessments above and below the waterline while vessels remain in service. This approach eliminates the need for dry-docking and minimises operational disruption. Deployment directly from the deck removes the need for divers, ROVs, or dedicated support vessels, improving safety while reducing inspection cost and complexity.
Following a comprehensive programme of engineering development, testing, and industry engagement, including demonstrations with international naval stakeholders and a successful in-water inspection of an FPSO hull, ORCA is now available to the wider marine and offshore market. The approach represents an advancement in hull inspection, combining high-accuracy wall thickness measurement with efficient, low-risk deployment.
ORCA is underpinned by TSC Subsea’s proprietary Acoustic Resonance Technology (ART), which has been validated by Lloyd’s Register for quantitative ultrasonic thickness measurement (UTM) of both internal and external corrosion in ship hull carbon steel plate through coatings.
Using ART, ORCA delivers sub-millimetre wall-thickness measurements through marine coatings, eliminating the need for coating removal and enabling more efficient inspection workflows. The high-quality data generated is suitable for risk-based inspection (RBI) programmes, supporting improved maintenance planning and integrity management.
ORCA has been developed to provide a more efficient and safer alternative to traditional hull inspection methods, delivering quantitative, actionable data while improving vessel availability.
The service is now available for commercial deployment worldwide across naval, commercial shipping, and offshore production assets.
