Phoenix Inspection Systems Limited has launched the CLiP Weld Scanner, a modular chain-link scanning solution designed for circumferential weld inspection and corrosion mapping on pipes from 4.5″ to 48″ outside diameter (OD).

The new scanner is part of Phoenix ISL’s Circular Link Platform (CLiP) range, developed in response to demand for a flexible chain-link solution for pipe inspection.

Unlike conventional scanners that use magnetic wheels, the CLiP Weld Scanner uses low-profile chain links to secure the scanner around the pipe. This enables inspection on ferrous, non-ferrous and composite pipes, while helping maintain a consistent circumferential scanning path and reducing steering issues.

Designed for challenging pipe inspections
Maintaining a straight and consistent scanning path is an important consideration during circumferential weld inspection. The CLiP chain links are designed to keep the scanner aligned as it travels around the pipe, supporting consistent data acquisition.

Fast changes between pipe sizes
The CLiP Weld Scanner can be configured for different pipe diameters by using varying numbers of chain links. Clip-fastening chain links enable rapid diameter changes, while tool-free adjustments help operators configure the scanner efficiently without specialist tools.

The robust, low-profile links provide secure attachment around the pipe while maintaining the flexibility needed for inspection teams working across different pipe sizes and applications. This can help reduce setup time when moving between inspection applications.

The CLiP Weld Scanner is compatible with OEM acquisition systems, giving inspection teams flexibility when using different ultrasonic inspection equipment.

With its modular design, broad pipe-size range and compatibility with multiple pipe materials, the CLiP Weld Scanner provides a flexible solution for circumferential weld inspection and corrosion mapping.
