Topics included: Classroom lecture of safe use, storage, transport of radioactive
materials. Safe use of X-ray radiation and the production of X-rays. Agreement
and Non-Agreement States including Reciprocity. Health effects included
radiation burns, sickness, and delayed effects such as cancer and genetic effects.
Physics of radiation including alpha and beta particles including byproduct,
gamma rays. How gamma and X-rays penetrate objects. Compliance included
Increased Controls such as the Trustworthy and Reliable Employee process and
many other US NRC / state rules and regulations. Dose formula practice and
examination. Inverse Square Law practice and examination, with and without
constant intensities involved. Hands-on practice and examination with survey
meter, rate alarm, pocket dosimeter, and film badge. Trained how to perform a
source leak test. Hands-on practice and examination with a demonstration SPEC-
150 exposure device including lecture and examination of assembly/disassembly
of exposure device and post-exposure survey and the importance of this
practice. This program also gives ongoing mentoring and study assistance for
state or ASNT. Certified Radiographer exam and towards Level II status. We
examined on a 3 part exam: General, Specific, and Practical exams.
